General Bernhard Ramcke

General Bernhard Hermann Ramcke

Born: January 24, 1889,

Ramcke has the distintion of being one of the most famous Fallschirmjager Generals. This tough son of a farmer earned his Parachutist Riflemans Badge at the age of 51, not an easy thing to do for even a young man.

Ramcke was well liked amongst his men, and was often refered to as "Papa" he was a veteran of Crete & Afrika campaigns where his Ramcke Brigade earned him his fame. He was also instrumental in the formation of the famous Italian Paratroop Division Folgore which was to be used along side his Ramcke Brigade in the invasion of Malta. Eventually he went on to command the 2FJD which was one of the key units in the defense of Fortress Brest which he was in overall command of. There is where he was eventually captured after a dogged defense against the American forces.
Dragon really did an outstanding job with this great tribute to a well known Fallschirmjager General.

Above: Ramcke discusses tactics with his superior General Fieldmarschal Erwin Rommel, after the defeat at El Alamein the Ramcke Brigade was pretty much left to fend for it's self. Without vehicles, supplies and behind enemy lines the men of the Ramcke Brigade had to make their way back hundreds of miles to catch up with the reatreating Axis forces.
