6th Fallschirmjager Regiment Carentan June 6th 1944

"The 6th Fallschirmjager Regimnent was one of the first units to engage the Allied forces. In fact the regiment had engaged the U.S. Airborne landings that evening and even managed to capture several hundred men, including officers.

For the next several hours after the landings they tried to round up as many U.S. Paras as possible. The Regiment made good account of it's self during the next few days.

The diorama base was made using a 12" wood base, foam, acrylic paint mixed w/stucco, wood for the hand painted signs and post. The figures are all Dragon with a mixed selection of Dragon Fallschirmjager jump smocks, custom bandoliers, leather p38 holsters, Battle Gear LW buckles, custom helmet splinter cover and a variety Dragon weapons and accessories. Each head skulp was hand painted.

Major von der Heydte C.O. 6FJR during the Normandy landings.

Major von der Heydte was in command of 6th FJR and was the only Fallschirmjager unit in the Normandy area. Heydte witnessed the landings first hand.. *"I reached a hamlet called Ste-Marie-du-Mont...In the main square stood an old church with a fairly high steeple. I got a hold of the keys and from the top, had a breathtaking view I shall never forget.... on the horizon countless of warships"
